Basal Metabolism Analysis

Basal Metabolism Analysis provides important information about your resting metabolism. Your resting metabolism is 60-75% of the total calories your body burns daily. This service is suited to clients who for different reasons need to focus on their dietary intake. This test is also useful in identifying any potential metabolic problems. The basal metabolism report is used by dietitians and nutritionists for a more accurate and individualised diet prescription. The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia recommends this test for prescription of diets. What will this service give you?

Your resting metabolism profile will show you how your body burns fuel at rest and help you adjust your food intake according to your needs

You will learn how much fat and carbohydrates your body burns at rest

You will know your Total Daily Calorie Expenditure which allows you to meet your daily intake targets

Correct fuel intake is crucial for your body’s performance, improve recovery and reduce risk of injury

This assessment may identify metabolic dysfunctions

You will be provided with a food intake diary to help you understand the relationship between your current intake and your body’s requirements

What is the cost and process of this service?

Appointment 1:  Basal Metabolic Rate Test

You will need to fast for at least 6 hours prior to this test. Your basal metabolic rate is measured while you are resting on a bed for 15-20 minutes.

Allow 30 minutes for this appointment.  $95 *

 

Appointment 2:  Results and Education

Your results are processed and you are provided with a basal metabolism report and a detailed explanation of your results.

Complete Metabolism Analysis

The Complete Metabolism Analysis is a full assessment of your metabolism both at rest and during exercise. This service is recommended for people who are interested in a full analysis of their metabolism but do not require an exercise program. This service is commonly used by people who are guided by their doctor/dietitian/nutritionist/coach who use our reports to aid with their own professional advice (Similar to how your x-ray report would be important for your doctor to diagnose and treat you, your metabolism report work in the same matter). This service is also commonly used as a re-test to see effects of a diet and/or exercise program.  If you would like a metabolism exercise program prescribed for you we recommend the Complete Metabolism Analysis + Exercise Program for a complete package.

 

What will this service give you?

Your complete metabolism profile will show you exactly how much fat and carbohydrates your body burns both at rest, with normal daily activity and during exercise

Knowing your fuel burning both during rest and exercise allows for correct planning of fuel intake pre, during and post event/ training for maximal performance and faster recovery

You will know your VO2max and training thresholds (specific power information provided to cyclists)

Your report will show you how your fat and carbohydrate requirements are changing throughout different heart rate/intensity levels (graph and tables provided)

You will know the heart rate range at which your maximal fat burning ability lies (LIPOXmax)

You will know at what heart rate intensity your body starts to completely rely on carbohydrates as a fuel source

You will need to fast for at least 6 hours prior to this test. Your basal metabolic rate is measured while you are resting on a bed for 15-20 minutes.

Appointment 2:  Exercise Metabolic Rate Test (VO2max or Submax test)

You will need to fast for at least 4 hours prior to this test. Your test will be conducted on the equipment of your choice:  treadmill, Wattbike or your own bike. After warming up, your exercise test will take 10-15 minutes. Exercise intensity will start at an easy level and progressively increase until you reach your maximum effort.

Allow 60 minutes for this appointment.  $170*

Appointment 3:  Results and Education

Following testing your results are analysed and a comprehensive metabolic profile report is produced. During this session your metabolism report will be presented to you and explained in detail. Any necessary correspondence with your doctor/dietitian/nutritionist/coach will also occur.

Complete Metabolism Analysis + Exercise Program

The Complete Metabolism Analysis + Exercise Program is our most popular service as it provides a comprehensive profile of your metabolism both at rest and during exercise including a 12 week metabolism training program. The metabolism program is designed to be incorporated into your current training plan.

 

What will this service give you?

Your complete metabolism profile will show you exactly how much fat and carbohydrates your body burns both at rest, with normal daily activity and during exercise

Knowing your fuel burning both during rest and exercise allows for correct planning of fuel intake pre, during and post event/ training for maximal performance and faster recovery

You will be provided with a food intake diary to help you understand the relationship between your current intake and your body’s requirements

You will know the minimal amount of calories your body needs for a normal healthy function and the amount you will need to stay under to prevent fat gain

Your report will show you how your fat and carbohydrate requirements are changing throughout different heart rate/intensity levels (graph and tables provided)

You will know your VO2max and training thresholds (specific power information provided to cyclists)

You will know the heart rate range at which your maximal fat burning ability lies (LIPOXmax)

You will know which heart rates to target to maximise fat metabolism, improve endurance and efficiency
